What a long, strange trip it’s been, indeed. I never planned to be an academic. After over twenty years of raising kids, restoring a condemned house with salvage materials, studying and participating in local food systems, teaching anthropology at local colleges, keeping track of student data at an alternative high school, and “making a living” through various other formal and informal arrangements, the idea of a career seems odd. Right now, though, my focus is on honing my teaching skills (being a teaching assistant at a Big Ten school is much different than taking on courses at smaller colleges) and producing quality Michigan history. I could entertain/bore you with many stories about my life, but since this website is mostly for my academic pursuits, my curriculum vitae is found below.
